As promised, our much-anticipated Jolie Asie exclusive beauty interview with Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra‘s very own personal hair stylist, Priyanka Borkar! I had a great time interviewing Priyanka, and am eager to head out to the stores to try out her favorite products!

Meg: What are your favorite hair products for getting celebrity-quality tresses? What products do you use on Priyanka’s beautiful hair?

Priyanka: A great shampoo and conditioner is the base to all beautiful hair. My personal favourite for one and all is ‘L’Oreal Absolut Repair‘. For a straight look go with ‘Wella [High Hair] Sleek Wonder‘ and for a beachy messy look go with ‘Tigi Curls Rock‘ spray.

PC is one of the lucky few to have great quality and thickness of hair. For PC I use a variety of products depending on the look. The basic one for every look is a product called ‘Moroccan Oil‘ which acts like a serum to give it that added shine and softness. Couple of other great ones are ‘L’Oreal Elnett Hairspray‘, ‘L’Oreal Hydra Repair‘ and ‘Wella Gloss Spray‘ for extra shine to name a few.

Lots of girls want to be just like you! What is your training and experience, and how did you get your job as Priyanka Chopra’s hairstylist?

Priyanka: I worked for over 5 years in a well-known salon called Kromakay in Mumbai, where I got my training and experience. The salon has a range of loyal celebrity clients and that’s where I met Priyanka Chopra for the first time. It began with a simple blow dry at the salon, moved on to a personal appearance and then a full-fledged movie, to put it in a nutshell. And rest how they say is history!

But let me just add that however glam it may seem to all the girls out there it is a very tough job, from having days standing on the sets for 18 hours at a stretch to not being able to seeing your family for months. You gotta love what you’re doing!!!

What was your favorite hair look you created for a Priyanka Chopra movie?

Priyanka: One of my personal faves is her look in the movie ‘Pyaar Impossible’ where she carried off a short graduated bob with uber ease.

Like so many girls, I’m uncoordinated and can’t hold a hair dryer and styling brush at the same time. How can I still get glamorous hair?

Priyanka: That only can be achieved with a lot of experience. But if you really wanna do it yourself the go with hot rollers for a glam look, it works the best! And for a straight look go with a straightening iron.

How can curly-haired girls make their hair look chic?

Priyanka: There are a range of products you could choose from- hair mousse, hair cream and serum are a few essential ones to go for. And like I mentioned before ‘Tigi Curls Rock‘ works the best!

What is it like working as Priyanka Chopra’s personal hairstylist?

Priyanka: Considering her busy schedule one may think it is very difficult to manage her daily hair rituals but her vibrant spirit and professionalism make it a breeze. She is easy to work with, and not afraid to try new things. She gets a lot of inputs from different people so sometimes it gets difficult to choose one particular hairstyle but she is very open to critique and comments. She is a fun person and takes good care of her entire team.

Do you have any fun beauty-related stories about working with PC you can share?

Priyanka: Backstage moments are the most fun! One of my fave memories was at a show where she had to sport 5 different looks in 6 minutes. It was sheer madness but way too much fun!

Styling hair can lead to heat and color damage. What can we do to prevent this?

Priyanka: To avoid damage to the hair, you must always use heat protecting products which are easily available with all leading brands.

What are the biggest hair mistakes style-conscious Indian women make, and how can they fix them?

Priyanka: Always let the professionals handle it! A lot of women do not follow up or take the recommendations given to them by their personal hairstylist. That’s the biggest mistake they make. There are a million products in the market nowadays for hair. The fact that a certain product suits your friends does not mean that the same will work for you too, so do consult your hairstylist for the same.

What’s your number one hair/beauty secret?

Priyanka: Washing your hair regularly, keeping your scalp clean and brushing your hair through the day.

How should older women style hair that is thinning? Do you have any advice, styles or treatments to achieve fullness and volume?

Priyanka: I recommend  to get a shorter do – it’s easier to maintain and adds volume instantly. Also, there are shampoos, conditioners and products for thinning hair which one can go for, for instance ‘L’Oreal Volume Extreme‘.

Thanks, Priyanka!

I am so proud and excited to present our very own Jolie Asie exclusive fashion and style interview with the very lovely Teena Ahuja Kapoor, Bollywood celebrity stylist, Mumbai-based image consultant, and Priyanka Chopra’s former personal stylist.

Without further ado!

Meg: Tell us about your average work-day: what do you do, who do you meet, where do you go?

Teena: I am a freelance stylist so my days vary drastically…. but an average day involves a lot of emails and phone calls to designers, productions houses and celebrity teams. As the shoot/ appearances get closer that’s where the madness begins from sourcing to fittings and finally the shoot. Some days I walk into a lot of local stores and markets to keep an eye on the latest trends and pick up accessories.

You were Priyanka Chopra’s personal stylist and gave her gorgeous outfits. Where did you buy those amazing clothes? And are there any less expensive brands you recommend for PC’s fans who want to dress like her?

Teena: I could go on and on with this one. Firstly, I must say that Priyanka Chopra has an amazing eye for beautiful things herself. There have been a number of occasions where she has been spotted wearing clothes from her personal wardrobe – from being in a Dolce and Gabbana dress to a Shahab Durazi outfit or Abercrombie and Fitch track pants (like you mentioned in your blog).  On other occasions, clothes/accessories have been bought or sourced from a host of designers which could be from one of our most well-known Indian or International brand or even a high street one.

Style is not about spending big bucks. Its about picking the right piece. There are a lot of high street brands available worldwide nowadays. Brands like Mango, Zara, Forever 21 and the likes are the best place to get a lot of stylish clothes for less. Also every city has great street shopping too, their local markets, its just about being patient and finding the right things there too.

What was it like working closely with Priyanka Chopra and other celebs?

Teena: I have worked the longest with Priyanka Chopra on a very close level. She is the most patient, intelligent and mature person for her age. For the 15 months I styled her there was not one time that the team was led to believe that we are at work. There was always a calm and fun vibe being around her. PC as we called her, was very open to new ideas and not the one to play by the rules (in a good way). She loves interacting with the entire team and getting everyone’s view. That’s the reason she loves being in touch with her fans throughout the world via twitter or her website www.iampriyankachopra.com.

What are your future goals and ambitions as a stylist and image consultant?

Teena: I go with the flow. I do not like stressing over the future. What’s the point right??? And anyway it all depends on how one molds it. As of now I am very content with the way my work is. Sometimes, I’m at a shoot and other times promoting a luxury brand. I reckon if all goes smooth then thats how it shall be in the future too.

What’s your go-to outfit for an evening out?

Teena: Oh this is an easy one. I am a hardcore jean person. A pair of dark blue skinny jeans with a black fitted shirt or if I gotta be more formal then an LBD (little black dress) and a statement piece of jewelry.

What do you think is the biggest fashion mistake most Indian women make, and how can they fix it?

Teena: Not knowing their body type. There are a lot of women I see/ know who spend all the money in the world and still don’t look good. They need to realize that ‘less is more’ ! Find out what your best and thinnest part of your body is and work around that.

Keeping it classy with one or maximum two loud things in your look is what you should go for. Having your bag, shoes, clothes, neckpiece, rings, bracelets, earrings all screaming out for attention is not the way anyone should go. Just saying all that out loud gave me a headache (haha) so imagine seeing all of it on one person. That’s a big NO-NO!

What’s your number one style tip for women who are petite (short or small)?

Teena: HIGH HEELS!!!!!  And not wearing skirts that are mid-length. It’s all about creating the illusion of longer legs and that can be done two ways. One by wearing short skirts/shorts with high heels (ofcourse) and the other by wearing a maxi dress (again with high heels- of course :)) Wearing a piece that is half way down your thigh or upto the knee cuts short your legs and will make you look shorter.

Who are your fashion inspirations and muses?

Teena: Really! C’mon this is just an unfair question! There are like a million of them! But I’m still gonna try -it could be someone like a Victoria Beckham’s classic but hot look, a Tarun Tahiliani’s timeless yet elegant Sari or even a kid on the street wearing something funky! I’m just open to it all!

If you could be a stylist for any one person in the world, who would it be?

Teena: Okay! I’m gonna give you one each bollywood and hollywood. Sridevi ( my all time fav.) and Jennifer Lopez!!!!

Our readers are regular girls with regular budgets. Do you have any tips for them to save money and still look glam?

Teena: Yeah of course! Pick items that are solid colors. In that case you can mix and match them up with a host of things in your wardrobe, For instance, you own a white shirt- you can wear it with a short denim skirt to give it an edgy look, a short flare skirt to give it a flirty look, pair of well fitted jeans for your classic chic look, a knee length fitted skirt for a more formal look, fun denim or bright colored shorts to give it a funky day look, throw on a blazer and get you serious work look an so on. See what I mean! Go for the solids and invest more in fun. playful accessories like shoes, bags, jewelry etc. coz then you can mix and match them in hundreds of different ways and have that many more looks!

Thanks, Teena!

If you’ve been reading our blog, you probably love makeovers. The best makeover movie of all time, “Fashion”, starred Priyanka Chopra in an award-winning role as a middle-class girl with big dreams, who makes it to the top of India’s fashion industry- only to lose herself.

By the time her makeover was complete Priyanka looked stunning; here’s how you can get the look yourself!

Recommended Products

MAC Prep + Prime Skin

MAC Select Cover-Up Concealer

MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation

MAC Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder

MAc Powder Blush in Gingerly

MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack

MAC Prussian Powerpoint Eye Pencil

MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder

MAC Eye Shadows in Nehru and Shroom

MAC Lipstick in Kinda Sexy

– Normally I don’t make a point of adding a makeup primer to my breakdowns, but because this look is best suited for photoshoots and high-glamour opportunities, I’ll throw it in there. Have your makeup stay on all day and night by applying a primer (MAC Prep + Prime Skin) after your moisturizer.

– Apply concealer (MAC Select Cover-Up Concealer) on blemishes and under the eyes. Because this look has heavy smoky eye makeup, conceal well or you will look like a sleepy raccoon!

– Using a foundation brush, apply a liquid foundation (MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation) to your skin. Brush in downward strokes, like a painter. Don’t forget to blend your edges out around the jawline.

– To set your foundation and concealer, apply a mattifying transparent powder (MAC Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder).

– Apply a ginger-bronze blush powder to your cheekbones (MAC Powder Blush in Gingerly). Optional: Apply a touch of this blush to the sides of your nose near your eyes for a slight contouring effect.

As always, PC is wearing her Freshlook Colorblends colored contacts in Green.

– Been wanting to learn how to do a winged eyeshadow makeup look? Here’s your tutorial. First line your upper and lower waterlines with a black gel eyeliner (MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack).

– Over the upper lashes, draw a thick line of black eye pencil (MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder)- do not wing this liner. Over the liner, smudge in a bluish-black eyeshadow (MAC Eye Shadow in Nehru) and blend upwards. Use an angled brush to extend the eyeshadow a half inch past the eyes at an angle that follows that of your lower lashline, as seen in the image above. Fill in the triangle and blend it into the shadow on your lids.

– On the lower lashline, dot a dark blue eye pencil (MAC Prussian Powerpoint Eye Pencil) between the lashes and smudge to create a thin line that hugs your waterline. Mix a little black eye pencil over this if you want to go darker.

– Apply a highlighting shadow (MAC Eye Shadow in Shroom) to your brow bone.

– To get Priyanka’s brown-nude lips, apply MAC Lipstick in Kinda Sexy, a matte neutral shade.

Director Madhur Bhandarkar pulled out all the stops in “Fashion” to create a stunning film with equally glamorous visuals. Even celebrity photographer Dabboo Ratnani and celebrity makeup artist Mickey Contractor made cameos in the song “Aashiyana” (at 1:23 and 2:25 respectively in the video below)!

P.S. I am SO EXCITED for Madhur Bhandarkar’s “Heroine” starring Aishwarya Rai! It’ll be “Fashion” for the Bollywood film industry. Filming starts this June.

Want to learn how to dress like Bollywood actress and star Priyanka Chopra? Here is your comprehensive how-to guide on Priyanka Chopra’s fashion favorites.

BE SURE TO CHECK OUT our How To Look Like Guide on Priyanka Chopra to learn about her beauty secrets and makeup mantras!

Don’t miss our exclusive Jolie Asie interview with Priyanka Chopra’s former personal stylist, Teena Ahuja Kapoor! Teena styled many of the looks seen below.

Priyanka’s style is very summery and very sexy. She knows she has an incredible figure and loves to show it off.

Priyanka attended high school in the United States and its influence on her wardrobe selections shows. For casual day wear, Priyanka loves to buy and wear clothes from Abercrombie & Fitch and Hollister.

From these stores she wears logo tees and shirts, ripped jeans, jackets, tanks, track pants, you name it! She’ll also on occasion slip into a sexier casual top from Guess Jeans. She’ll pair her A&F tops and bottoms with sneakers, flip flops, or funky heels.

Priyanka’s day wear outing clothes are perhaps my favorites of hers- they are stunning and incredibly flattering! Look for solid-colored fitted cotton or jersey dresses and tops (try online at topshop.com and shopbop.com).

Pair the dresses with a well-fitting strapless bra, strappy sandals, a thin belt if cinching is needed, and a few silver bracelets. Pair tops with short light-wash denim skirts from (you got it) PC’s beloved Abercrombie & Fitch.

Day and night, Priyanka likes to try out different fabrics and cuts. Not at all one for layering, she prefers one-piece outfits, be they dresses or jumpsuits and rompers, as seen above. This style is particularly good for emulating in hot weather or when you find color-coordinating or layering exhausting and bothersome. Play it safe like Priyanka by keeping your color schemes cohesive and simple.

Now to her evening or night wear. Priyanka is (in)famous for her love of short, fitted dresses. It’s true that she will attend award shows or interviews in the occasional gown, but her favorite fall-backs are seen above. Personally, I think the dresses look fabulous on her- glamorous and oh, so attractive!

Notice her consistency: she likes her dresses to have a subtle drape in the front, with a snug fit in the chest and looser fit in the waist. To get Priyanka’s dress style, try BCBG, French Connection, and Alice+Olivia. She usually pairs her dresses with one of her two favorites pairs of shoes: silver Louboutin sandals and open-toed Jimmy Choo pumps. Look for heels that are metallic or glittery to match with all of your evening dresses.

As for ethnic wear, Priyanka rather religiously sticks with saris and anarkalis designed by Bollywood’s darling designer Manish Malhotra, pictured with her above. When picking a sari like Priyanka’s, look for sheer materials, tiny metallic blouses with plunging necklines, and go for a revealing drape. Pair with large drop earrings and a select few bangles to finish the look.

Last but not least, accessories. Priyanka is often photographed wearing aviators (try Ray Bans if you are going for the celeb look). On casual days she’ll wear a few rings, bracelets, and silver bangles on her left arm. When dressing up, she will wear bare-minimal accessories: a large ring OR a luxury watch OR a pair of earrings.

Priyanka has beautiful hands and tends to keep her nails long and painted with a french manicure.

And that’s how you can use fashion and styling to dress just like Bollywood celebrity Priyanka Chopra. Let us know what you think and if there are any other celebrities you’d like to learn more about!

Want to learn how to look like Bollywood actress and star Priyanka Chopra? Here is your comprehensive how-to guide on Priyanka Chopra’s beauty secrets, makeup mantras, and hair styling tips.

Priyanka Chopra shot to fame in 2000 when she was crowned Miss World. She quickly rose to superstardom in India as both a model and actress, acclaimed for her acting abilities and admired for her beauty, ten-on-ten figure, and personable image. Today she is one of Bollywood’s top heroines, and a favorite of Bollywood megastar Shahrukh Khan (much to her delight).

BE SURE TO CHECK OUT our How to Dress Like Priyanka Chopra Guide to learn about her fashion and style.

Priyanka told Harper’s Bazaar Magazine that she swears by the CTM method: cleanse-tone-moisturize. She likes to experiment with her moisturizers and revealed on Twitter that she switches between light lotions like Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion and richer creams like Clarins’s Hydraquench Cream. To keep her skin clear and healthy, she regularly takes multi-vitamins and drinks a lot of water.

On her diet and exercise regimens, Priyanka told the Times of India: “I go to the gym four times a week just to tone my body. I am lucky I do not have a tendency to put on weight.

The only thing that I have cut down on is oil…. I also avoid any kind of heavy meals. Instead, I thrive on healthy snacks. In my case, baked, steamed and stewed stuff has edged out deep fried delicacies.

Sprouts of all kinds too make a frequent appearance on my plate. I also love raw vegetables, especially fresh, red carrots. For the present, it’s also no cheese, no butter but high fibre foodstuffs for me. I firmly believe that if you eat right, you feel right.

As far as beverages are concerned, coconut water is my all time favorite. I can have any amount of it anytime of the day.

My keep-fit regimen also includes a number of breathing exercises.”

Eating right, exercising right, breathing well and taking meticulous care of your skin are all recipes for looking beautiful like Priyanka Chopra!

Priyanka’s revealed her daily makeup routine to NY Times Magazine: “[For eye lining, I like] M.A.C. Teddy [Eye Kohl], a bronzy brown…. I usually smudge that into a black Armani pencil. But the most magical is the M.A.C. [Fluidline] black liner in a pot, in Black Track. I apply this to the inner rim of my eye with a firm brush, and it doesn’t move at all. It never irritates my eyes. It is great for swimming, rain or crying scenes.”

For her daily look, Priyanka said, “I must have my Bobbi Brown concealer, in Honey. There are so few that are yellow enough for my skin. I apply that where needed and then M.A.C. NC43 powder [Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation]. My favorite blush is Nars Orgasm. My lip is usually M.A.C. Spice [Lip Liner], or a Laura Mercier lip stain in Mulberry. Armani Eyes to Kill mascara is a must.”

Priyanka loves perfumes and wears many different fragrances; some of her favorites include Ralph Lauren Romance, Dolce & Gabbana The One, Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin, and Jo Malone Vintage Gardenia.

There are four basic rules to follow when applying makeup to look like Priyanka Chopra.

1) Wear green colored contacts

Priyanka is almost always seen wearing her green colored contacts (Freshlook Colorblends in Green). They look dazzling on her and give her black eyes interest and depth. I’ve personally used these contacts and loved them- they made my skin look both fairer and brighter!

2) Wear a peachy-pink blush

Priyanka is totally a creature of habit. When she finds a beauty product or item of clothing she loves, she’ll wear it over and over again! This is the case of her peachy-pink blush; to get her glow, try her favorite blush: NARS Blush in Orgasm. This one’s a favorite of Danqing’s, too- read up on her post about NARS Orgasm!

3) Wear pink-based lipcolors

Priyanka’s best facial feature is her luscious lips (so says boyfriend Shahid Kapoor, at least!), and she knows how to play them up in a way that is both sexy and classy. Wear pink-brown, deep pink, or pink-red lipsticks or lipliners to look like Priyanka Chopra- and stay away from dull, unflattering nudes!

Try her favorites (and mine) MAC Lip Liner in Spice and Laura Mercier Lip Stain in Mulberry. Also try MAC Lipstick in Sophisto and MAC Lipstick in Twig. Priyanka told Vogue India she likes to use The Body Shop’s Born Lippy Lip Balm to moisturize her lips; wear this on off-days!

4) Use makeup to contour your nose for thinness (optional)

Look carefully at Priyanka’s nose and you’ll notice her makeup artist applied a brown contouring powder to contour it. Nose contouring gives the illusion of a slimmer nose; it is a trick loved by celebrities who may have insecurities about the size or shape of their nose.

To contour your nose successfully takes practice and seriously good lighting. Take a shade slightly darker than your skintone (try a medium-brown eyeshadow or MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural) and, starting from the top of the sides of your nose, draw two straight lines down either side towards the nostrils. Blend downwards to form a right triangle. Keep blending until it looks natural.

Priyanka “Piggy Chops” Chopra cuts her hair to a medium length, several inches past her shoulders. She parts her hair in the center or on the right side, with some short, wispy bangs falling on the left side of her forehead. She will either wear these bangs alone or sweep them back with the rest of her hair. Her hairdresser thins her thick hair and gives her numerous choppy layers to keep it looking modern and chic. She gets her hair trimmed every two months.

Priyanka colors her hair brown, from medium-brown to very dark. Most often she will wear her hair down, either straightened, blown out, or with the bottom half curled in loose, outward facing curls.

Priyanka Chopra shared with the NY Times that her hair beauty secrets “come from the kitchen. Beer and egg are great for the hair. Yogurt is excellent for helping with dandruff. And in India we do a lot of warm coconut oil deep-conditioning treatments. Massage coconut oil directly into [the] scalp. This way it gets to the root, so the hair grows in healthier.”

And that’s how you can use diet, exercise, makeup, and hair styling to look just like Bollywood celebrity Priyanka Chopra. Let us know what you think and if there are any other celebrities you’d like to learn more about!

How gorgeous did Priyanka Chopra look in the film “Dostana”? The youthful 2008 Bollywood film is set in Miami and MAC makeup God- er, artist- Mickey Contractor created a summery, fresh and sexy look for the former Miss World. Here is my interpretation of her look for you to replicate!

Recommended Products:

MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation

MAC Studio Finish Concealer

MAC Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder

MAC Powder Blush in Pink Swoon or Mocha

Freshlook Colorblends in Green

MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack

MAC Eyekohl in Teddy

Diorshow Mascara by Christian Dior

MAC Lipstick in Brave

– First apply a moisturizer that suits your skin-type and (optional) a sunscreen/primer. I recommend Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Cream for Face SPF 55 PA+++, a powerful sunscreen that acts as a brilliant primer. Because Contractor is a MAC artist, he would probably prep skin with MAC Prep+Prime primer.

– Stipple on MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation (for reference, Priyanka Chopra’s shade is NC43, but ask your local MAC makeup artists to help you find the color that works for you!) with the MAC 187 brush. Stippling involves pumping a small amount of foundation onto the back of your hand, lightly tapping the brush in the foundation, then tapping and swirling the brush over your skin lightly and evenly. This prevents a thick, heavy foundation look.

– Apply concealer (MAC Studio Finish is amazing) where needed to brighten skintone, i.e. around the nostrils. Because this is a smoky look, be sure to conceal any undereye darkness thoroughly. Blend well!

– Lightly dust on a setting powder, either transparent or in the same color as your foundation. This step is not necessary if you are using a good primer or you prefer the dewy look of the foundation.

– For Priyanka’s pink flush, try MAC Blush Powder in Pink Swoon (a shade described by MAC as “clearly pink”). For darker skintones, try MAC Blush Powder in Mocha. Apply either on the apples of the cheeks (for smaller faces) or above the cheekbones (for larger faces).

– Priyanka is wearing (as she often does) Freshlook Colorblends contacts in Green.

– Line the lower waterline with an angled brush (MAC 266) using a black gel eyeliner (MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack). Gel eyeliners do not run like pencil eyeliners do.

– Using a bronzy shadow liner (MAC Eyekohl in Teddy), run a line over your upper lashes and smudge upward and outward. Priyanka wears several different eye looks in the film, so you could also try this with a black pencil (MAC Eyekohl in Smolder), or a dark olive eyeshadow. The shape of your smudging isn’t terribly important, as long as it blends well outward and doesn’t look harsh. Apply lightly! In this case, less is more, as it is a very casual smoky look. Take a small eyeshadow brush and, picking up some of the color, carefully line the outer-third of your lower lash-line as well.

– Curl your lashes and apply your favorite black mascara. I love Diorshow by Dior.

– To get Priyanka’s sweet pink lips, try MAC Lipstick in Brave (“pink-beige with white pearl”). A color like this isn’t often tried by South Asian skintones but looks extremely feminine and lovely! Just make sure your pink lipstick isn’t TOO light, or you will look washed-out. If you have very pigmented lips, apply in layers, blotting with a tissue as you go to really set the color.

And there you have it! This look is beautiful and beachy. If you try it out, let us know what you think!
